The Maryland State Climartologist Office (MDSO) is in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science at the University of Maryland College Park.
The MDSCO is a member of the American Association of State Climatologists (AASC). The Office was Recognized as a State Climatologist Office by the AASC in 2023. In this role, we are part of the National Climate Service Partners, which collaborate with NOAA to effectively deliver high-quality, timely, and relevant climate services to the state.
We maintain strong connections with numerous cooperative observers in the state, as well as with the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), National Weather Service Offices, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and other key sources of weather and climate information.
We provide climatic data and basic consultation to Maryland state businesses, agencies, students, researchers, and citizens. For climate data, please submit a data request.
As a Recognized State Climatologist Office, we are focused on 1) monitoring the climatic conditions impacting the state, 2) doing research and impact assessment of these conditions; 3) raising public awareness of weather and climate issues through outreach activities, and 4) developing climate products to educate the public on weather and climate issues.
